“Biometrics on the move” from Materna IPS was chosen for the technology award which was awarded during the Airport Show in Dubai, which took place this week. As a long-term supplier for Middle East airports and airlines the Materna IPS team exhibited once again at the biggest event for Aviation Authorities, airports and airlines in that region. Visitors could test the self-service solutions by Materna´s Virtual Reality showcase directly at the stand in the German Pavilion. In addition to that customers learned about how biometric identification helps to minimize passenger queues at certain touchpoints. The smart technology for face identification can be installed at all passenger touchpoints like check-in, self bag drop, access to airside, lounges, self boarding gates etc.
The solution fills the gap between increasing security requirements concerning passenger identity verification and smooth passenger processing throughout the passenger journey from curbside until boarding. Materna´s technology provides a secure biometric enrolment where trusted documents like passports are used to verify and identify passengers against current pictures taken.
Based on the secured enrolment passenger may pass other touchpoints without the need to neither provide documents to prove their identity nor the need to stand still to be identified by a camera. With “Biometrics on the move” passengers face recognition is activated automatically as soon as the passenger enters a defined area. Depending on the touch point, the passenger only has to walk through at pre-security, lounge or self-boarding gate, or may receive a bag tag at self bag drop position. In any cases, no interaction with the biometric identification system is required.
The “Smartest technology of the year 2018” award was given to the Materna IPS team on May 8th in Dubai.
