At the beginning of 2019, IPS gained their first Japanese customer, Chubu Centrair International Airport. At the end of September 2019 the first 8 self bag drop kiosks have been installed on site in less than two months. Shortly after the installation the Japanese station NHK broadcast a report on modifications to the passenger journey and gave a first impression of the passengers’ positive reactions towards the changes.
As the first retrofit self bag drop project in Japan IPS a SITA company, together with its local partner TKK, has installed IPS’s self bag drop solution in the newly built Terminal 2 of Nagoya Chubu airport. The IPS Drop.Go solution offers a simple and quick way for passengers who have already checked in for a flight to put their luggage into the baggage handling system. By simply scanning a boarding pass, bags can be dropped off within seconds.

Our Drop.Go solutions are easy to fit and integrate into existing check-in counters without making any changes to existing hardware installations and they are also equipped with an intuitive application and touch display. They are freestanding self-service bag drop systems for quick and easy one or two-step processes with optional print outs. In addition, the retrofit automats at Chubu airport are integrated in the IPS CUSS platform which is based on IATA standards and allows airlines to switch workstations seamlessly.
We are thankful for the trust the airport has placed in us and the welcoming response from passengers right after the installation. In the future IPS is going to continue working on enhancing the passenger travel experience worldwide. This project marks the beginning of us positioning ourselves on the Japanese market.
